Modbury travel to Wilfred Taylor Reserve, Morphett Vale on Saturday 1 June to take on Noarlunga United in Round 12 of the 2019 State League 1 season. Kick off is at 3:00pm.
The Jets start the second round of fixtures top of the State League 1 ladder, a point ahead of White City following their home draw to Sturt in Round 11. Modbury will be devastated to have relinquished the lead in injury time against the Lions however on reflection a draw was probably a fair, albeit disappointing, result.
Modbury was top of the league after 11 rounds in 2018 however a poor second half of the season, which added only 10 points in the last 11 rounds, saw them drop away to fifth before a great finals run saw the Jets fall in the Preliminary Final. The club is three points better off at the same stage in 2019 and arguably in much better form than at the corresponding point last year. Without doubt Modbury has greater depth this year with its talented Reserves squad well clear at the top of their competition. The U18s are also preforming superbly in 2019 sitting second on the table and through to the semi-finals of the Cup following a convincing 3-0 mid-week victory against Adelaide City.
A win away at Noarlunga is a must however Modbury must combat its poor record when travelling south, having been beaten away by both the Bulldogs and Seaford in 2018. With Noarlunga struggling and Modbury flying high, all three points is a reasonable expectation.
The Jets defeated Noarlunga 5-1 at home in the opening round of the 2019 season, however suffered a 1-0 defeat last time they travelled to Wilfred Taylor Reserve for Round 13 of the 2018 State League 1 season.
