Modbury travel to Jack Smith Park, Novar Gardens for their 5:00pm evening clash against WT Birkalla in Round 19 of the 2019 State League 1 season.
The Jets are closing in the league title but know that they need to finish the season strongly to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League in 2020. With an eight point lead at the top of the ladder, two wins from the remaining four matches are required to be certain however if results favour Modbury this weekend, celebrations could be in order.
After grinding out a win in difficult conditions against Salisbury, the Jets will need to display much more quality to get the points against a Birkalla side that is fighting hard to secure a finals place. The return of McGreevy to the team alongside equal top scorer Josh Farrell will add some firepower and Modbury’s miserly defence – having conceded only 11 goals and with 11 clean sheets – will again be the foundation for a positive performance.
Birkalla will be looking for consistency after an indifferent run of recent form.
In what promises to be an entertaining afternoon of football, Modbury’s Reserves only need a point against second-placed Birks to secure the league title and the U18s, the only team to have beaten top side Birkalla this season, will also be looking for a confidence-boosting win as they head towards the finals.
Modbury defeated WT Birkalla 3-1 at Smith Partners Stadium in Round 8 of the 2019 State League 1 season with Shaun McGreevy, Josh Farrell and Zac Miller the scorers.
