In our first home match of the 2016 season, the Jets welcome Pirates on Saturday 12 March at 3:00pm.
After the disappointment of our Round 1 loss to White City, in a match from which we deserved at least a point, it is important to put in a strong home performance and bag the three points. Our first half performance last week saw some of the best football from the Jets in recent memory and while we couldn’t find the back of the net, there’s no doubt that we have the quality in the squad to be serious contenders this season. A positive result against Pirates will certainly be a step in the right direction!
Last season Pirates ambushed us at home in Round 1 of our Premier League campaign in a 3-1 defeat, with Henderson on the scoresheet (and on the wrong end of a red card!). We came away from the return fixture with a hard-fought 2-2 draw after Rinaldo scored from the penalty spot before McNally grabbed the lead late in the first half, only to concede an equalizer in the 89th minute.
