In the second of three away league fixtures, Modbury travel to Rushworth Reserve, Blair Athol on Saturday 23 March to face Adelaide Victory in Round 5 of the 2019 State League 1 season. Kick off is at the traditional time of 3:00pm.
Following a disappointing first loss of the season at White City on Friday evening, the Jets need to get back to winning ways against newly promoted Adelaide Victory. In reflecting on their last outing, Modbury will be disappointed with their performance and particularly unhappy to have conceded two from set pieces. While it could be argued that the scoreline didn’t reflect the match, with the Warriors scoring their third from a counter attack while the Jets pressed hard looking for an equaliser, Modbury was well beaten on the night and will need to improve as they head into Round 5.
The Jets have a good record against Victory and will be expecting to claim all three points this weekend, but their opponent will be encouraged after claiming a come-from-behind point last week against highly-fancied Cumberland, and defeating Fulham the previous week in Round 3. Modbury need to rediscover both their defensive resilience and form in front of goal to get the desired result.
Despite their Round 4 loss, the Jets remain top of the league and the return of club captain Michael Doyle, together with first starts of the season for Anthony Francesca and Chris Mara in the Reserves, is a positive for the Jets who will be looking forward to having a full squad available for selection in coming weeks.
Modbury last played Adelaide Victory during the 2017 season winning 3-1 away, and claiming a 3-2 result at Smith Partners Stadium with late goals to Mitch Coull and Steve Maio, in the 92nd and 96th minute, stealing the win.
