In an evening fixture, Modbury returns to Ramsay Park on Saturday 11 May to take on Playford in Round 9 of the State League 1 season. Kick off is at 7:00pm.
After the disappointment of an early Cup exit at the hands of the Patriots three weeks ago, the Jets will be focused on atoning for that defeat with a win in the league to hold on to top spot on the ladder. Modbury will be aware of its slender advantage over White City, on goal difference, and will know that it needs to keep winning to maintain its position.
A week off following the Cup round should see the Jets refreshed and ready to resume their league campaign, and they will be encouraged by their strong performance against Birkalla in Round 8. Equally, Playford will be buoyed by their last minute equaliser against Western Strikers in their previous league outing and will be looking to hold their position in a congested mid-table.
Modbury has always found Playford to be a difficult opponent, and will be expecting a physical encounter against determined opposition. Both sets of supporters will be looking forward to an entertaining ‘northern derby’.
The Jets met the Patriots in a Thursday night Round 2 FFA Cup Preliminary Round fixture on 18 April, with Playford prevailing 3-1 on that occasion. The two sides last met in the league during the 2016 State League 1 season with the Jets winning 4-1 at home, and 2-1 away.
