The Jets return to West Beach on Saturday 24 August in the first week of the State League 1 finals series as they take on Sturt in the first leg of the Semi-Final. Kick off is at 3:00pm.
After a hard-fought 2-2 draw between the sides last week in Round 22, Modbury and Sturt face each other in a two-legged semi-final . Despite the Jets finishing the season 12 points ahead of both Sturt in second and White City in third, Modbury was not able to claim a win against either of their top three rivals during the season. A result against Sturt over two legs will be required, with the winner advancing directly to the Grand Final.
After a remarkable season, Modbury will be motivated to make their way to Coopers Stadium and cap their year off with a Grand Final victory. To do so, the Jets will need to overcome a talented Sturt side looking to bounce straight back to the Premier League following relegation in 2018. Last week’s match was a physical encounter with both sides finishing the match with 10 players, with the Jets captain Michael Doyle seeing straight red just before half time before the numbers were evened up in the second half.
Josh Farrell’s 95th minute equaliser saw him level with teammate Shaun McGreevy for the State League 2 Golden Boot, with McGreevy claiming the award for the second time in two seasons.
Modbury’s Reserves and U18s face Birkalla at West Beach in their Semi-Final first legs after finishing in first and second respectively.
Modbury and Sturt played out a pair of 2-2 draws during the season with the Lions grabbing a late equaliser against the Jets at Smith Partners Stadium in Round 11, before Modbury turned the tables with a late goal of their own in Round 22.
