Modbury host Sturt Lions at Smith Partners Stadium on Saturday 31 August in the second leg of the State League 1 Semi-final, with kickoff at 2:30pm.
The Jets take a narrow lead and an important away goal into the fixture after securing a 1-0 win in the first leg, courtesy of a well taken Josh Farrell goal. With the winner of the tie over two legs progressing straight to the Grand Final – and earning a valuable week off – both teams will be looking to win the tie. Having already secured their place in the Premier League in 2020, Modbury must ensure that there is no complacency as they seek to do the ‘double’.
Sturt need to get to the Grand Final to keep their promotion hopes alive and will fight hard to put themselves in a position to go straight back up to the Premier League in 2020. After three close fixtures so far this season the two sides are clearly evenly matched and an entertaining game is likely. The past two matches have been physical encounters as both teams have sought to gain the ascendency. While Modbury has a slight edge, the tie is finely balanced. The Jets will fancy their chances at home.
Modbury’s Reserves and U18s play their Semi-Final second legs against Birkalla. Both teams have a job to do after suffering heavy defeats in the first legs, going down 4-0 and 5-1 respectively and will need to put in strong performances to get back into their ties. Realistically, they will be happy to have earned the double chance.
